Difficulties with Job Stalking
A continuation of Job Stalking #3.
Today, there are so many layers of defense(?) when trying to get a job that its really frustrating. Here are several scenarios that I ran into:
- You post your resume to an email address but they leave no phone number, address, or specific company information in order to follow-up or check on your process. A lot of the jobs posted now are like this, how unsettling is that? Just wait indefinitely?
- Expect most jobs to take 2 weeks to acquire because of multiple interviews, those crazy 80 questions personality/aptitude tests (that supposedly don’t mean anything-they just want to ‘best fit’ you for a job), drug tests, health/strength tests, background check, and a myriad of other things.
- Some jobs never tell you what the ‘pay’ will be…depends on experience? I went for an interview where I was told to talk to HR about what I was getting paid. When I talked with HR they wanted to talk to the department head/administrator/interviewer before quoting an amount. Then they called me in for a tour of the ‘facilities’ and they asked me what HR said the amount was, I told them ‘they said its up to you!’…so after a day or two more someone called me with an offer that was to LOW to accept!
- Employers need to give more upfront information so we ALSO can move on, or pass over jobs that will obviously not draw us in.
- Other jobs have a national group that leads you through the next steps from email and phone. Your interview and other processes will be local, but you can’t locally ’show up’ till instructed to do so.
If you are just going to work part-time at McD’s or Star(cost-a-lot-of)Bucks than maybe you can get hired ‘on the spot’ for a job…but for a more professional or career oriented job it is becoming a maze to conquer any HIRE under 6 weeks from submitting application/resume or 2 weeks from the actual first interview.
These only cover SOME of the known difficulties with acquiring a job…share some of your experiences!
Happy Job Stalking!
