I know, I know…it seems like Stephanie has all but taken over since we have been on the ship. But actually a lot is happening.
Tonight was African Night for the meal at dinner. That is always a lot of work. We have African Night every 2 weeks usually on the Monday night. This time we had Fried Chicken w/spicy pepper sauce (local pepper), Jolof Rice (which I will probably cover for you later when I continue on with the Sanka Sauce post), Black Eyed Peas/Beans made Ghana style (you have got to use the Red Palm Oil or the taste will never be the same), fried Plantains, and an Eggplant dish made by Ophelia (our ward cook, Oh, she also made the pepper sauce for the chicken too) so I am pretty sure that was made Liberian style.
I have also been posting our menu and relative interesting, funny, or relative information on my other blog http://AFMmenu.com but of course I don’t want you to feel like you have to subscribe to two blogs!
In the future there will also probably be recipes and general food science or info that may help with cooking. Our organization has launched a new internet system that is accessible to Mercy Ships only, so that means it has effectively cut off my other blog from being essential for the menu anymore, so in light of these developments I just continued on with using it as my own blog, as it was before I changed the name of it to reflect the ships menu. So really nothing new, just the same old tyronebcookin.
But here are a few post links you may find interesting or funny about what I have been doing lately:
The Culinary Challenge Has Begun!
Next week the ‘winners’ from the above 2 Culinary Posts will be rolling out their work/meal for 400+ crew and I need to be on hand both weekend days for help, consult, and overall intimidation factor (just kidding, no really). They will be working with one of our cooking teams to try and adapt their winning meal to serve the crew…and I am imposing all the equipment, time, food restrictions and limitations of what we have to work with everyday so they can get a real feel for it. Nice guy that I am.
In about 2 weeks I will be getting some special function and special meal requests again outside of the normal meals. Oh, and for you Tyler folks out there I know (wink, wink) I think we will be getting a visit from a group that attends the Green Acres Baptist Church. Send me some good coffee (already ground since I burnt up my grinder here) by making the pastor carry it for you…JUST KIDDING. (plus I know most of you reading from that area attend the OTHER church we attended, you know, the one with the GREAT young married Sunday school class with the excellent teachers and dinner clubs!
Last weekend, as some of you may have figured out from Stephanie’s ‘camping’ post, I allowed/let Stephanie leave for the weekend to take a break off the ship with some of her ‘girlie friends’. OH, almost forgot, I let her spend some money while she was gone too…she convinced me the other girls would not pay everything for her the whole weekend so I finally gave her a generous ten spot ($10)! Well, not really. It was a bit more than that, but hey what can I say…she’s worth it. And it gave her a break that she needed (and I had time alone). [just in case you didn't pick up on it, I meant for this paragraph to be funny...I don't keep Stephanie locked up or anything]
Well, thats all I feel I can share at this point. I can feel the BIG ORGANIZATION media police scrutinizing my little blog for borderline content infractions.
Until next time…

Tyrone-
You are my first friend on the Africa Mercy. You left me some great comments on my blog a few weeks ago. I have not forgotten you. I am coming in just over 2 weeks!!! I will be working as a nurse (which I hear you guys need desperately). I am wondering is there anything you or your wife would like from “home”? I am trying to pack light- but would love to bring anything for you that I can. Let me know!
