I was asked by Mercy Ships (who I still presently work for) to fly to England in order to cook for the sail from Blyth, England ( a stop or two inbetween and then) to West Africa eventually meeting up with the Anastasis already on outreach in Monrovia Liberia. This ship, Africa Mercy, is getting ready for its first outreach voyage.
Mercy Ships, a global charity, has operated hospital ships in developing nations since 1978. Following the example of Jesus, Mercy Ships brings hope and healing to the forgotten poor, mobilizing people and resources worldwide, and serving all people without regard for race, gender or religion.
Having already worked on two prior ships the Caribbean Mercy and the Anastasis as the Chief Cook, I felt this would be a great adventure and opportunity to see what I (and my wife) will be getting into this coming January when we set sail yet again.
Although I will miss my wife tremendously (for a whole month!) we both feel it is good to be able to experience before hand what may be in the future. And of course, yes, I am excited to be on the ‘high seas’ cooking once again and visiting with friends and Mercy Ships family I have missed for so long. Africa Mercy is the newest, biggest ship in the fleet. The world’s largest non-governmental hospital ship!
Probably for the month of May I will be dedicating these blog posts to my work and sail on the Africa Mercy. Which will still be…cook, chef, culinary sponge, traveler, volunteer & missionary oriented of course! (as you would have guessed from my blog title!)
**I am a long-term volunteer. Financially I am at the mercy of friends, family, church and any one who contributes. All who contribute/support me personally are eligible for a tax receipt(credit) from Mercy Ships. We (my wife and I) are currently raising financial support to work as missionaries in West Africa (10/40 Window).** Our Website

What kind of cuisine do you do on these ships?
Im assuming since its a medical ship something healthly or the like?
Good luck and be safe.
awesome opportunity! I would love to get to see the Africa Mercy finished! Lord knows I saw enough of her “in process!” Let me know how it goes.
